Two women and two children have died in a horror house fire in London while a man who escaped the flames was rushed to hospital.

Neighbours said they heard terrified children – thought to be an infant boy and girl – screaming and saw a ‘distraught’ man outside the home in Bexleyheath as it was ‘engulfed in flames’ last night.

They told how the blaze tore through the semi-detached property after supposedly starting on the downstairs as they watched on helplessly.

A faulty fire alarm may have led to the devastating inferno, it was claimed, as police and fire investigators probe why no alert was sounded after saying it was not believed to be suspicious.

The young children are believed to have died in their beds while their mother was hauled out of an upstairs window at the £425,009 property. Two men, including the children’s father, were able to fight their way out.

The victims are believed to have moved into the house recently, with it said to have been on the market for around £425,000.

A group of three women and two men broke down on the road this morning and were comforted by police in front of the blackened 1930s three-bedroom house.
